The first four deliveries were distributed by Midway Games and released mainly in Arcade machines, then home consoles were available. The arcade titles were later purchased by Acclaim Entertainment for home consoles of the time. The last game in the franchise was present Midway was in the crossover Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe because a few months later went bankrupt and had to close, after the company's bankruptcy, the franchise was acquired by Warner Bros. in July 2009 and became part of the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The newest title Mortal Kombat reboot that was published in May 2011.1
